Investment & Decision Assurance
Independent challenge before a material investment, supplier or architecture decision.
Problem this solves
A significant technology or transformation investment is about to be committed, and the MD or board wants independent challenge on the case, options, risks and readiness.
What it is
Before a material commitment is made, this engagement examines the case, options, vendor recommendation or architecture decision on the table. It tests assumptions, identifies gaps and conditions for success, and reports findings directly to the sponsor or board. Independence from delivery interests is non-negotiable.
Key activities
- Review the investment case, options paper or vendor recommendation
- Structured challenge with sponsor and relevant stakeholders
- Assess readiness, risks and conditions for success
- Report findings and recommendations to the decision-maker
Outcomes
The decision-maker has an independent view of strengths, gaps, risks and conditions for success before commitment.
Deliverables
- Evidence-based challenge of the case or recommendation
- Risk and readiness findings
- Options and recommended conditions
- Board- or sponsor-ready summary
Boundary
Does not replace management accountability for the decision. Not a full programme health review.
What typically follows
Can stand alone before a major commitment. May lead to Core Systems Replacement Leadership, Operating Model work, or no further engagement.
